CHW Studios: Lessons Info & Policies

What to expect:

  • For beginners, we focus on the basics of each instrument to build a strong and encouraging foundation. While certain key elements are necessary on each instrument, we use a flexible curriculum so that students can learn at their own pace with methods that suit their individual learning styles. (For example, some will find written music easiest to follow; often, a student will need to see and hear the instructor perform notes or parts of songs in order to learn the parts. We will always strive to help students learn how to read written music as well as learning parts by ear.)

  • For intermediate and more advanced students, we build upon the basics and focus on helping students learn intricacies of songs that interest them and help them achieve their goals, while always challenging them to learn and try new patterns and styles on their instruments.

Schedule & Cost:

  • CHW Studios offers multiple lesson packages depending on what students are looking for (see below).

  • Each package (other than Band Lessons) includes 44 total lessons per year, and we follow the Sullivan County school schedule - that means time off during major holidays, spring break, fall break, and winter break, as well as a flexible summer schedule!

  • Lessons occur at the same time each week, with a few weeks off per semester (Fall/Winter/Spring Breaks). Click here to see the current lesson calendar.

  • Payments are taken during the first week of each month, which ensures that you or your child receive(s) the same time slot each week. The first month is prorated depending on how many lessons remain for that month.

Lesson Packages:

  • 30-Minute Lessons: $145 Tuition per month (44 Total Lessons per year)

  • 45-Minute Lessons: $220 Tuition per month (44 Total Lessons per year)

  • 60-Minute Lessons: $280 Tuition per month (44 Total Lessons per year)

*$25 One-Time Enrollment fee will be charged on the first month

  • Band Lessons: Band lessons are currently twice per month at $65 per student. They involve 3-5 students playing their instruments together with a focus on performing songs in a modern environment. Go to chwstudios.com/bandlessons for more info and to sign up!

Studio Policies

Release of Liability:

Parents or legal guardians of students, who are minors, and students (both minors and adults), waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on Studio property during normal lessons or any other activity engaged in by the students before, during or after the lesson time, and assume the risk of any injury. Further, such parents or legal guardians of students, who are minors, and students (both minors and adults) shall hold harmless and indemnify the Studio from any claim or damages arising from any injury. CHW Studios is not responsible for providing care or watch for students before or after the lesson. If students are left at the Studio before or after the lesson, the parents assume the risk for the safety of the student, without limitation, during such time.

Missed Lessons, Make-up Lessons, Refunds

Make-up Lessons at CHW work through a waitlist system. When you miss a lesson, you'll be added to the make-up list, and every two weeks I'll try to place waitlisted students into any available spots. I'll do my best to accommodate last-minute changes as they come up. Because make-up availability is limited, I'm able to offer up to two make-up lessons per semester.

Remember that sticking with regular lessons is vital to your/your child's success as a growing musician! Just like playing on a sports team, each player must be present for all of the practices, workouts, and scrimmages to be able to play when it's game time. In the same way, being present and on time for lessons is key to becoming a successful musician – it sets the precedent for future rehearsals and performances as well (if you don't practice, you don't play!). While sickness, school trips, and emergencies do happen, make sure you stay committed to your set lesson time and notify your instructor well in advance of any absences, when possible.

If you need a make-up lesson, contact your instructor to be added to the list!

Lesson times are reserved just for you, and with an active waitlist of students hoping for a regular spot, consistent attendance matters more than ever. Missing three or more lessons in a semester puts your reserved time at risk of being offered to another student (this would only happen after multiple conversations between Instructor and Parent or adult Student).

At the end of each semester, only one missed lesson may carry over into the next semester or into the summer schedule — any additional missed lessons are forfeited at that point. This ensures every student gets a fair shot at a make-up spot while keeping the schedule workable.

Make-up lessons are typically only available for the following circumstances: family emergency, serious/contagious illness, extreme weather-related events, or absence of the instructor (planned or emergency). No refunds and/or credits will be given for any missed lessons. A "No Call No Show" or less than ample notice (24 hours) disqualifies the student for a make-up lesson.

Payment Information

Although CHW follows a yearly term, payments are made month-to-month, and must be made during the first week of each month. Payment breakdown: 44 Lessons per year x $40 per lesson = $1760 per year. Instead of paying lesson to lesson, we make it simpler by rounding down and dividing by 12 to get (approximately) $145 per month. Then there are price breaks for doing longer lessons too!

Payments can be made by cash, check, or payment apps such as Venmo, Paypal, Cash App, etc. If a student enrolls only to receive a partial month of lessons, the lesson(s) received will cost $40 each for half-hour lessons, $60 each for 45-minute lessons, or $75 each for full-hour lessons. Payments taken after the 7th of any given month will incur a $25 fee. *If a check bounces, the parent, legal guardian, or adult student is responsible for repaying the monthly cost as well as an additional $35 fee.

Withdrawals and Refunds

The Annual Term is defined to be August through July. A term begins on the first day of the month. A one-month notice from the first day of the month is required to discontinue any lessons (no refunds or make-ups for any missed lessons during the last month). To withdraw from lessons, a parent or adult student must complete and sign a withdrawal statement, provided by CHW Studios.

***By taking lessons at CHW Studios, either online or in-person, you agree to adhere to all of the aforementioned policies.
